First, I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, mother figures, and future moms out there. As mothers, we sometimes lose sight of what it means to raise our children as followers of Christ. We are called to create a straight and narrow path for them, instilling Christ’s values and nurturing a love for Him in their hearts, while lifting them up in prayer every day.
In this blog post, I want to share a prayer that we can speak over our children:
Heavenly Father,
We come to You in prayer, seeking Your guidance in raising our children according to Your will. Please show us the values that are most important for them to learn. We break any generational curses that the enemy has set against them and pray for Your protection over all they do and wherever they go. Keep them safe from mental, physical, and emotional harm, and we denounce the spirits of suicide and self-harm.
We pray for prosperity in their lives, so they won’t have to endure the struggles many of us faced while growing up. May a spirit of obedience take root in them—not just towards their parents, but also toward the elderly, their peers, and anyone deserving of respect, like teachers. Help us recognize any values or teachings we learned that do not align with You, and guide us away from passing those on.
In a world filled with challenges and diseases, we ask for strong immune systems for our children and speak healing over any ailments they may carry. May they learn the value of respect and be taught to treat others as they wish to be treated. We lift up prayers for their future spouses, asking that they find the partners You have chosen for them, and for their future children, that they may raise them in Your Word.
We desire for our children to always want to please You and for the foundation of Jesus to remain in their lives as they grow older. Grant them wisdom and strength to handle life’s trials and tribulations, and bless them with peace and a sound mind. We ask that any negative influences be removed from their lives and that true friendships be established.
Help us as mothers to discern what activities our children should engage in, and remind us that they are their own individuals—not extensions of our childhoods. Show us how to be the positive role models they need. May they have the confidence to understand their calling and who they are in You, acknowledging Your power and love for them.
Lord, I ask that You replace that pride with humility. Grant them a willing heart and mind to continually learn and grow. In a world full of darkness, let their light shine brightly, allowing them to be leaders.
Finally, we seek forgiveness for any mistakes we’ve made as mothers and ask for Your guidance to improve each day. Above all, teach us to love our children truly and to entrust them to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
